8 GUIDING PRINCIPLES

Our 8 Guiding Principles:

Comprehensive A successful Main Street program requires a comprehensive approach, including activity in each of the four points: Economic Vitality, Design, Promotion, and Organization.

Incremental Small projects and simple activities lead to a more sophisticated understanding of the revitalization process and help develop community involvement.

Self-Help Local leaders must have the will and desire to mobilize local resources and support.

Partnerships Both the public and private sectors must work together to achieve sustainable revitalization.

Identifying and Capitalizing on Existing Assets Historic buildings, local businesses, and human resources must be recognized as fundamental resources for revitalization.

Quality All aspects of the revitalization program must be of high quality to assure success.

Change Changing community attitudes and habits is essential to support and sustain revitalization efforts.

Implementation-Oriented Frequent, visible changes demonstrate that the revitalization effort is underway and producing results.
