LILY GRAHAM, SOPRANO
Lily Graham, soprano, is delighted to be a first-year member of the Sound of Ages Consort. Lily is local to Salt Lake City where she also sings regularly with the Utah Chamber Artists and with the Cathedral of the Madeleine. In addition to choral singing, Lily has enjoyed an array of performance varieties including solo concert work, opera, operetta and musical theatre. Some of her favorite roles on stage include Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Diana in Orpheus in the Underworld, Galatea in Acis and Galatea, Joanna in Sweeney Todd, and Princess Margaret in The Student Prince. Lily received her MM from Wichita State University studying with Alan Held, and her BM from the University of Utah studying with Carol Ann Allred.
SAMANTHA GORDON, SOPRANO
Samantha Gordon, soprano, is a conductor and singer originally from Denver, Colorado. She holds a B.M. in choral music education from Brigham Young University, and will graduate with an M.M. in choral conducting from the same institution in April 2025. She has appeared as a soloist with the BYU Singers, Aspen Chorale & Orchestra, West Jordan Symphony, Wasatch Chorale, and Ensign Singers, and is regularly contracted as a professional ensemble singer and recording artist across Utah. Additionally, Samantha has been selected for choral singing intensives including the Seraphic Fire Professional Choral Institute, the International Choral Academy at the University of Minnesota, the Spire Chamber Ensemble Choral Conducting Workshop, and BYU’s residency program with the Santa Fe Desert Chorale. She has been singing with Sound of Ages since 2020.
ANTHONY RAY, COUNTERTENOR
Anthony Ray is a Salt Lake City-based tenor and countertenor. Originally from southern California, he sang with the Los Angeles Master Chorale, the Sunday Night Singers, Choroshynthesis, and other professional chorale ensembles. He has been a member of Sound of Ages for two seasons as the consort countertenor. Additionally, he has appeared locally as a soloist for several ensembles. Anthony received his Bachelor of Arts in music from California State University, Los Angeles. He is currently working on a Master of Arts in history from the University of Utah and a Master of Arts in theology from St. John’s School of Theology in Collegeville, Minnesota.
DALAN GUTHRIE, TENOR
Dr. Dalan Guthrie is the Director of Choral Activities and an Instructor of Music at Weber State University. He earned a BM in Music Education and MM in Choral Conducting from Brigham Young University and a DMA in Choral Conducting from Michigan State University. Prior to WSU, Guthrie directed the choirs and taught graduate conducting at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Previously, he taught at Salem Junior High School, where his choirs were selected for performances at the Utah Music Educator Association (2016, 2018), Utah-ACDA (2017,2018), and Western Division ACDA conferences (2019). Guthrie is an active professional tenor and has appeared as a guest soloist for the Lansing Symphony Orchestra and Michigan State University and is a member of professional choral ensembles across the US. He is frequently sought as a clinician and recognized for his approach to building tone and vocal health.
BLAKE WAYMENT, BARITONE
Blake Wayment, baritone, specializes in early music, ensemble singing, and concert solo performance. He studied Classical Vocal Performance at Brigham Young University, performed with the BYU Singers for four years, including tours to Italy, Greece, and Switzerland. Blake’s recent solo performances include singing the baritone solos in J.S. Bach’s cantata Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland (BWV 62) and Duruflé’s Requiem. He has worked with Seraphic Fire as a participant in the Aspen Music Festival and School, and regularly sings with professional and semi-professional ensembles throughout the region.
LUCAS ZUEHL, BASS
Lucas Zuehl is a Bass-Baritone pursuing an undergraduate degree in Vocal Performance and a minor in Creative Writing from Brigham Young University. He sings with Los Angeles Master Chorale, Sound of Ages, and is a staff singer at the Cathedral of Madeleine. Lucas was in the Voces8 US Scholars program, where he spent 4 weeks recording, performing, and doing educational outreach in the United States alongside Voces8. He has been a vocal fellow in the Spoleto Festival USA Chorus for two years, and attended Source Song Festival and the University of Minnesota International Choral Institute. He cultivated a passion for German Lied at the Franz-Schubert-Institut in 2023—and returned there in 2024— where he studied with experts in the genre including Elly Ameling, Robert Holl, Julius Drake, Andreas Schmidt, Roger Vignoles, and Richard Stokes. His awards include the Roy Samuelson and Clayne Robison awards from the BYU Young Artists Competition and an Encouragement Award from the Gerda Lissner Song/Lieder Competition in 2024.
SAM HANDLEY, GUITAR
Sam is an accomplished guitarist with a collaborative spirit. He specializes in jazz but plays styles ranging from pop to rock to medieval/renaissance. His biggest influences live at genre borders, including Pat Metheny, Joshua Redman, Louis Cole. He plays in indie/R&B bands Homephone, Candid! and Jumpmonk, in Synthesis (BYU’s premier big band), and with Sound of Ages. He has toured internationally and has recorded on multiple albums, and also specializes in linguistics and Russian language.
KAMERON KAVANAUGH, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Kameron Kavanaugh founded Sound of Ages in 2016. Under his direction, Sound of Ages has performed in concert venues across Utah; at state, regional, and national conferences of the American Choral Directors Association; and at Carnegie Hall. In addition to being a frequent choral guest conductor and clinician, Kavanaugh has conducted the Utah Symphony Brass. He has championed early music in the concert hall and classroom and has innovated narrative and other concert forms to help broad audiences connect with the infinite power of the human voice. As a director and educator, Kavanaugh trained with Ronald Staheli, Rosalind Hall, and Andrew Crane at BYU and through doctoral studies with Barlow Bradford at the University of Utah. His passion for music is dwarfed only slightly by his passion for ice hockey. He and his wife Liz enjoy the home they built near the orchards of Santaquin, Utah.
ANDREW MAXFIELD, COMPOSER IN RESIDENCE / NARRATOR
The compositions of Andrew Maxfield—hailed as “rhythmically vital ... superbly judged ... [and] tender” by Fanfare Magazine—have been performed throughout the U.S. and Europe. A recent winner of the King’s Singer’s New Music Prize (Jury Special Commendation), Andrew has been a Composer Fellow of the National Collegiate Choral Organization and Composer-in-Residence for Newburyport Choral Society, Southern Virginia University, and Sound of Ages. His “well-crafted, approachable” works (Dr. George Case, The Boston Cecilia) have been performed by groups ranging from Utah Symphony and Utah Opera to The Gesualdo Six and Choir of Royal Holloway, recorded on multiple albums, and are published by Walton, Santa Barbara, and Yalecrest. Andrew learned his craft at the EAMA–Nadia Boulanger Institute in Paris, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and the University of Bristol (UK), via mentorship with Philip Lasser (Juilliard), John Pickard, Jonathan Bailey Holland, and Marti Epstein.
