With the success of the Top of Utah Half Marathon, 2019 is the perfect time to do something new with the 26.2 mile marathon, and showcase another beautiful part of our great state of Utah. We are adding a new 2-person Relay, an exciting Downtown Logan start and finish, new 10-mile option, a fun 1K Kids and Family Fun Run. Please let us host you in 2019, and we will Earn Your Return.
Different course, with new and traditional bests from the Top of Utah
We invite you to celebrate the beauty of the Logan, Utah area by running through historic districts, past golf courses, along river trails, on wide-open country roads, through wetland areas, and all in the shadow of the beautiful Wellsville Mountain Range. Runners will gather, start and finish on a newly remodeled city block, which Logan City will completely closing down on Center Street from 100 West to Main Street, so you can safely arrive, run, mingle and eat afterwards, and return to your cars safely.
Our new course is one of the flattest in the west, (only 100 ft of elevation across the entire 26.2 miles). We will keep the same traditional Top of Utah weekend, but leave the beautiful Blacksmith Fork downhill run for the Top of Utah Half. The new city route will provides an open and fast path through the west-side of the Logan & Cache Valley. At the half-way point (13.1 miles), the Mendon City Park will allow for a perfect transition site for our NEW 2-person relay hand-off.
All runners start and finish on a strait-forward 6-block stretch down Historic Center Street, and complete their event on the newly remodeled city block in downtown Logan. For this event, you won't have to get up at 4:30 am to catch a bus, nor bundle-up like a mummy, so get some more sleep and join us as the sun crests the tip of the Wellsville Range, around 7:00am instead. While we are going to throw a lot of new cool stuff at you, many of the same Top of Utah features will remain like Logan celebrity announcer Rod Flueger, frequent hydro stations, big and bold finisher metals, photos on the course and finish line, as well as accurate timing and reliable race results.
NEW for 2019, all registered runners will receive a brunch courtesy of one of 4-5 local restaurants, featuring a wide-selection of baked goods, waffles and pancakes, crepes, eggs, drinks and other items to refuel after the race. We will also feature music throughout the course and at the start and finish lines. We also think you will be BLOWN AWAY by a new Runner’s Expo hosted by longtime-sponsor Altra Footwear.
Because the Top of Utah Half-Marathon offers the beautiful downhill run out of Blacksmith Fork Canyon, we’ve decided to not compete with this traditional course. Instead we hope to break-out of the downhill trend, (many marathons today are a copycat downhill run like the Traditional Top of Utah). Please consider also participating in the beautiful and popular Top of Utah Half event in August each year. LINK TO TOU1/2.
Our 2019 route will start and finish in Downtown Logan, Utah, on a closed city-block that will allow for a party-like atmosphere from beginning to end. We also want to let you get your beauty sleep, so we will start at approx. 7:00am, with a shotgun start as the sun crests the top peak of the Wellsville Mountains. Marathon and 2-person Relay runners will leave Downtown Logan and proceed west on historic Center Street for 6 blocks before turning south towards Logan River Golf Course and the Logan River Trail system. Once UNDER 1000 West, next to Icon Health and Fitness' World Headquarters, runners proceed on open country roads towards Mendon on a closed-course. Wetlands and streams on both sides of the course, together with light traffic are sure to make this course a new favorite.
Halfway point of the course and mid-run support station is at the beautiful Mendon City Park. Marathon Relay partners hand-off their markers, and both groups return back toward Logan along Mendon Road. Once back into Logan City, runners will follow the Logan River Trail through wooded sections along the Logan River Golf Course, along side Willow Park and Cache County Fair Grounds, before finishing again along historic Center Street with a clear and strait approach to the finish line.
Once at the finish line in Downtown Logan, the party is just beginning. All runners receive a big finisher medal, a nice post-run brunch provided by multiple local vendors, and event photos and results in big-event fashion. Also enjoy the many vendors at the Altra Runners Festival event, music, and plenty of drinks and refreshment to reward your incredible accomplishment.
In mid-September, you will most likely run the entire event in the same clothing items from start to finish.
