Sense of Awe
The Spring Equinox Evensong at St John's Episcopal Church in Historic Downtown Logan on Saturday, April 12, 2025 is programmed around the theme of what many space visitors have called “The Overview Effect.” This psychological phenomenon has been described using words and phrases such as “awe”, “profound kinship”, “sense of how small we are", etc. Visit https://www.soundofageschoir.com/
While The Overview Effect is primarily a visual phenomenon aided by the emptiness of space, music can have the auditory equivalent. Open sonorities, reverberant tone colors, thin textures, and interwoven silence helps create the ambiance for us to reflect on what inspires awe, kinship, and humility in our day-to-day lives. The program features music by Guillaume Du Fay, Arvo Pärt, Robert White, John Pickard, John Junstable, and Andrew Maxfield and guitar by Sam Handley.
